The risk of injury during a bus trip is low compared with a trip by car. Knowledge is nevertheless limited about the accidents that affect bus passengers on their way to and from the bus stop and at the bus stop. The risk of injury is affected not only by the involvement of different means of transport in accidents but also by different mean numbers of passengers.
The aim is to study the safety effects of changed bus travel, especially when passengers move between cars and buses. To provide data on those injured, emergency wards at the four major hospitals in Skåne are participating. The method is based on data from the STRADA register. These data are supplemented with interviews with postal questionnaires sent to selected injured road users. Mileage in bus traffic and for pedestrians is calculated according to a few different methods. Skånetrafiken is taking part, providing data on mileage in bus traffic and walking distance to bus stops. Data may also be obtained from the RVU survey of travel habits.
